It's like New Zealand right in our own backyard! A traditional Maori feast, right here in Hidaka. Here's how it works: dig a big hole. Light a bonfire and put iron railroad ties right in the middle of it. When they get white hot, place them at the bottom of the hole. Meanwhile, HOA staff and a herd of volunteers will prepare baskets full of meat, potatoes, and vegetables which are then placed on top of the hot irons at the bottom of the hole and covered with burlap and dirt, creating a natural oven. Wait five or six hours till dinnertime, relax, bask in a Hokkaido summer day, then dig it all up. The food just melts in your mouth! As the evening wears into night, a DJ will spin tunes beneath the big tent in the HOA yard. Don't miss it!
